How to object to the Bygrave solar plant

The planning application (ref: 22/00741/FP) has now been submitted. With such a limited time frame to submit your objections, it is vital to act now.

Here’s our simple 3 step process to help you object to this application.

HOW TO OBJECT

Step 1: Select a method to register your objection

  ONLINE: https://pa2.north-herts.gov.uk/ (search for 22/00741/FP)

  EMAIL:   [email protected]

  POST:    Mr Simon Ellis

               Development and Conservation Manager,

               North Hertfordshire District Council,

               PO Box  10613, Nottingham, NG6 6DW

Step 2: Submit an objection

The objection should be factual, not emotional. Some of the grounds for objecting can be found below, but it is important to use your own words and list the objections that matter the most to you.

  • The site is of the second highest grade agricultural land, so should not be lost from agriculture. Relying on more food imports will only increase the UK’s carbon footprint.
  • The site is of cultural and historical significance, forming part of the landscape setting of the Arbury Banks scheduled monument and located on the ancient Icknield Way.
  • The local landscape is extremely sensitive to a development of this size as there is very little development in this area at present – the site is 20 times the size of Bygrave.
  • The sloping and undulating topography of the land means that mitigation of the visual impact of the site is impossible.
  • The site is known to support native wildlife including red kites, kestrels, buzzards, hare, barn owls, badgers, linnets, roe deer and many more. Their habitats would all be disturbed.
  • The location between the three villages of Ashwell, Bygrave and Newnham means that inevitable future expansion would further encroach on at least one of these communities.
  • The site defies the industry’s own guidance to use flat, low-grade agricultural land, or brownfield land.

Step 3: Add your details

It is vital to include the following information in order for your objection to be counted.

  1. Application reference: 22/00741/FP
